Something Big For MGS V: The Phantom Pain Coming Soon

facebooktwitterreddit

It looks like Konami has an announcement to make about Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and you won’t have to wait that long to hear the news. A countdown page has taken over the MGS V page on Konami’s website, indicating an announcement “coming soon.”

The way the site is counting down towards this Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain announcement is quite clever, using the Seiko watch Punished Snake uses within the game to mark how much time is remaining. Judging by the watch, whatever announcement is being made will occur on Wednesday, March 4 at 9 AM EST. You can try to use the phantom cigar button available to try to speed time up and bring us closer to the reveal, although a woman voice rings out, saying, “Function unavailable.” Can’t knock a guy for trying!

As much as game creator and director Hideo Kojima likes to operate in mystery, I’d like to think this announcement for The Phantom Pain bears little to no mystery. It wasn’t that long ago that Kojima went on the Kojima Station to reveal that the release date announcement for the game was going to take “only a little longer.” That promise was within the final 10 days of January, so for Kojima to announce the MGS V release date on Wednesday, just 6 weeks later, falls in line with relatively soon.

That said, knowing Kojima and his penchant for trickery, we might be getting an announcement of an entirely different sorts. It will be related to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, that much we know for sure. Guessing exactly what is in store is just part of the experience.
