As many games companies are starting to report their quarterly earnings, including Nintendo, Sony is just the latest to report their quarterly financial results. The biggest highlight for the PlayStation brand; the PS4 shipped 3.3 million units in Q2 2014, spanning from July 1st – September 30th. That brings the total PS4 units shipped to 13.5 million worldwide, a great feat considering it has been on the market for less than a year. Software across all PlayStation consoles saw a boost from 85 million last quarter to 106 million. Finally, Network sales reached 71 billion Yen, up from last quarter’s 69 billion Yen.

That brings the current confirmed totals between the PS4, Wii U and Xbox One to 13.5 million, 7.29 million and 5 million units shipped, respectively. Microsoft hasn’t released a firm number on their Xbox One units shipped total since posting that total as part of a post-NPD public relations report.

However, as always, PlayStation and the PS4 doing well does not equate success to Sony. During this past Quarter, Sony has posted a net loss of 136 billion Yen. That’s in a stark contrast to the same quarter last year, where they posted a 19.6 billion Yen net loss of income. Overall, Sony has lost 109.2 billion Yen across the entire company in the first 6 months of financial reports, with 24.7 billion Yen going to restructuring costs due to spinning off sections of the company and laying off employees. While things are looking great for the PlayStation brand, the same can’t be said for the rest of the company.
