E3 2015: Rock Band 4 Launches In October

UPDATE: Harmonix and Mad Catz have confirmed the release date with a new trailer, showing off the game’s freestyle attributes.

ORIGINAL: Whether it was leaked by accident or set to go live early this morning, E3 2015 news never sleeps. Rock Band 4 will launch on October 6th, according to an Amazon US listing of a full “Band-in-a-box peripheral bundle set. Heading to the PS4 and Xbox One, the bundle comes with a drum set, guitar, USB mic, footpedal, drumming accessories and a guitar strap, with an MSRP of $249.99 USD.

The listing, as of press time, includes the option of putting “a unique spin on your facorite tracks with Freestyle Guitar Solos, Drum Fills, and Freestyle Vocals.” We knew about the Drum Fills and Freestyle Vocals previously, but the option to provide variety to guitar playing was kept under wraps until now. The listing also includes the fact that the base Rock Band 4 game will contain “over 60 new songs,” with a pre-order incentive exclusive to Amazon purchasers of the band bundle or the Stratocaster Guitar + Rock Band 4 bundle to 34 downloadable tracks in a Song Pack. Finally, Alabama Shakes’ “Don’t Wanna Fight,” Breaking Benjamin’s “Failure,” Death From Above 1979’s “Trainwreck 1979” and The Pretty Reckless’ “Follow Me Down” are also offered exclusively through Amazon.

Considering the Rock Band 2 Special Edition Bundle with equivalent equipment (Game, Guitar, Drums, Mic) cost $189.99 USD at launch almost 7 years ago, it would be fair to say that the price tag currently offered for this Rock Band 4 bundle is rather expensive. A lot of people who are interested in Rock Band 4 are owners of previous, compatible hardware, however the fact remains that paying the same price as a Wii U Basic console for the full experience of playing just one game will provide a barrier of entry that will be tough for many to overcome.
