The worst kept secret for Nintendo America going into today’s Nintendo Direct was the imminent release of a New Nintendo 3DS XL. Now we officially know that both systems will be available for sale on February 13th, and will retail at $199.

More from 3DS

Coming in as either Red or Black, the New Nintendo 3DS will sport A, B, Y and X buttons with letter coloring of the Super Famicom-era design. More importantly, it will feature a new analog C-stick designed for enhanced control features, and will become a staple feature for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS when it becomes available in February.

With new face-tracking technology, these New Nintendo 3DS devices will be able to show a proper 3D image, no matter where you are positioned. Additional external support features include those for NFC and Amiibo, with Smash Bros. for 3DS once again coming in to heavily utilize this feature first.

It’s not just gaming that the New Nintendo 3DS XL will boast. The web browser, download and internal processing will all run faster than previous versions of the 3DS. It’s not like gaming will be completely left out, however, as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D will also be released on the same day.
