Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 Raised $1.25M+ For Charity

It is absolutely amazing what an amazing group of elite video game players can do for a very great cause when working together. As of the end of the Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 speedrunning marathon, right when ZFG had Link thrust the Master Sword through Ganon’s head at the end of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Speed Demos Archive, SpeedRunsLive and the donating community performed the unthinkable. They have raised at least $1.25 million directed towards the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The reason I say “at least $1.25 million” is, due to a bug in the donation tracker, a fair number of donations were not tracked during the 160+ straight hours of marathon speedrunning. The tech team is working on the bug, and will continue to tally up donations that were not tracked. Do not worry about your donation being lost and not going towards the Prevent Cancer Foundation; the charity’s money is accounted for. It’s just on Games Done Quick that needs to find lost bids in order to allocate raffles for prizes.

Last year’s Awesome Games Done Quick even had seen the community donate the most they’ve ever done at one event, with more than $1 million donated. With the help of Humble Bundle, Something Artistic, Twitch channel subscription and donors like you (including several at the $10,000 level), that number might be topped with a possible total $1.5 million.

If you’re someone who has become interested in speedrunning games due to Awesome Games Done Quick, you need to get over to Speed Demos Archive and SpeedRunsLive as soon as you can. Who knows; with games coming out each year (including speedrunning newcomers like Shovel Knight), it could be you that takes center stage next year when Awesome Games Done Quick 2016 takes over once again!

You can check out the formal announcement of the donation total below. Also, if you can’t get enough speedrunning action, there will be a bonus Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 stream going on at 12 PM EST later today on their Twitch channel. With a Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament as a bare minimum incentive, you do not want to miss out!
