Combining the charitably of telethons and the cunning ingenuity of completing speedruns of popular video games, Awesome Games Done Quick 2015

is now live!

If you are someone who is unfamiliar with just what exactly Awesome Games Done Quick is, let me fill you in. It’s an annual charity event where Speed Demos Archive gathers some of the top speedrunners together for a full week of playing and streaming awesome and challenging games to completion, as fast as possible. It is all done in the name of the Prevent Cancer Foundation, a “Nonprofit organization that saves lives through cancer research, education and community outreach.” Before the stream even went live, we’re already at $1,849 raised!

You can donate directly through the Games Done Quick donation tracker, where you can assign your donation dollars towards certain speedrunning incentives. Some of the popular incentives include whether to save or kill the Super Metroid animals, naming characters in JRPG’s and which types of runs to play. You can also donate at certain times during the stream in order to enter raffles for prizes, including special consoles and other gaming memorabilia.

Additionally, you can pick up some sweet Awesome Games Done Quick games-themed t-shirts from The Yetee, with $3 from each shirt directly going to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Starting at just $11 with affordable shipping, it’s a great way to get involved while wearing the cause on your sleeves! Each year, the following for Awesome Games Done Quick only gets larger and larger, as more money is raised for Prevent Cancer Foundation progressively each year. Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 saw donations raised to a total of more than $1 million; an awesome feat for a collective group of people simply playing video games for 7 straight days in a row!

Events from last year include an amazing 4-player competitive race to complete Super Metroid, blindfolded wins against Punchout competition, a Yoshi’s Island run so hot it set off the fire alarm, and so much more. With such a substantial interest going into this year’s event, the pressure is on to top an action-packed Awesome Games Done Quick 2014.
