NPD November 2014: Massive Price Cuts As Xbox Won

Each month industry experts are given a report that details all of the consoles and software numbers sold from physical retail brick-and-mortar stores within the United States, which are then reported on by sites privileged with that sort of information. They are published from the NPD group, with this month’s numbers reporting for NPD November 2014.

Top 10 most sold physical software titles in the US, according to NPD November 2014 numbers (bracket order=most-to-least sold version):

  1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, XBO, PS4, PS3, PC)
  2. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
  3. Super Smash Bros. (NWU, 3DS)
  4. Madden NFL 15 (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
  5. Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (3DS)
  6. Far Cry 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
  7. Pokemon Omega Ruby (3DS)
  8. NBA 2K15 (PS4, 360, XBO, PS3, PC)
  9. Assassin’s Creed: Unity (PS4, XBO, PC)
  10. Halo: The Master Chief Collection (XBO)

More from 3DS

Additionally, Microsoft finally broke their recent streak of NPD-related silence by stating that the Xbox One “was the best-selling console in the US and UK” for the month of November. Furthermore, the NPD report stated that, “Cumulative PS4 & Xbox One sales are now almost 80 percent higher than the combined total of PS3 and Xbox 360 sales after 13 months.”

Finally, Nintendo chimed in with their great news, revealing that Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has sold near 1.5 million physical and digital units since its October 3rd launch, while Pokemon ORAS have combined to hit that same number since November 21st. Super Smash Bros for Wii U sold almost 710,000 in its same 8 days within the NPD-recorded month (November 2nd – 29th), while Amiibo figures sold roughly the same amount. Finally, the Wii U sold 10 percent more consoles and 90 percent more software units this November, when compared to last November.

Well, there you have it. It took a great deal of effort, an intriguing slate of holiday, exclusive releases and downright silly good price cuts in its holiday bundles (like an Xbox One with Halo: The Master Chief Collection and a $30 gift card for a $299 + tax value), but finally, the Xbox One outsold the PS4 this November. With a light release schedule until March 2015 kicks in, it will be interesting to see how long Microsoft can hold onto the #1 spot. It’s already an intriguing November NPD, with 3 different pure exclusives making the Top 10 list.
