PS4 Version Of Final Fantasy VII Priced At $16

Final Fantasy VII is priced at $9.99 on the PS3, PSP and PS Vita’s PlayStation Store. It is currently available at $11.99 on Valve’s Steam Store. However, with the PS4 port of the PC version coming next year, Siliconera reports that the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII will launch at $15.99.

No, the entire game is not being remade. In addition to the PC’s version of Final Fantasy VII being ported over to the PS4, however, Square Enix has confirmed that “system-exclusive” features will be available, as well. There has been no comment on the nature of those features, although one can guess that they involve streaming and recording game content.

The worst part of this news? In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn’t count it as one of Square Enix’s most egregious price points. Right now, in Canada, it costs $16.99 to pick up Final Fantasy VII on Steam, meaning it will actually be cheaper to pick it up on the PS4 next year. Plus, you have to remember this is the company that launched a horrendous-looking iOS port of Final Fantasy VI at $15.99 last year, and a full-priced 1080p upgrade of Sleeping Dogs this year. This is all silver lining-seeking here, as it is quite disappointing that Square Enix has to milk the Final Fantasy VII cow for this long, at this price, without remaking the thing from scratch.
