Killer Instinct Season 2 Launches Today

As we reach the conclusion of the Xbox One’s first year on shelves, so does the continual development of Killer Instinct become like clockwork. Today, Killer Instinct Season 2 soft launches with new characters T.J. Combo and Maya, with a great deal more on the way throughout the upcoming year. To celebrate, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy Studios have released a launch trailer to tease what’s in store.

Not only do we get to see the great American brawler and Amazonian queen in action, but at least six more characters have been teased for the rest of Killer Instinct Season 2. Two returning characters from gaming titles past are Riptor and Cinder, but the Xbox Wire also reveals the character profiles for the unknown new fighters joining the mythos. “An ancient Babylonian sorcerer, an avenging ghost, a battle-hardened war golem, and more” are set to join the roster this season. Furthermore, advancements to the graphical output (jump from 720p to 900p according to Iron Galaxy community manager Alex Jebailey), UI, full roster move rebalancing and additional inputs like advanced air juggles are being added.

With next-gen gaming still in its infancy stages, Killer Instinct Season 2 looks to carry the torch from Season 1 by leading the fighting game community into the 8th generation of consoles. Guilty Gear Xrd will look to follow up shortly, and Injustice has already been ported over to PS4, but nothing has quite made the jump as its own new experience quite like Killer Instinct has within the FGC and at big tournaments like Evo. With Iron Galaxy Studios taking over the reigns for the departing Double Helix (who did a great job when everyone, including myself, doubted them), the spotlight is on them to continue their surprise success.

Killer Instinct Season 2 is available now exclusively on Xbox One. You can try it out for free with a rotating available character, or you can purchase access to the entire season of characters for $19.99 for the Combo Breaker Pack, accessories and costumes plus more at $39.99 with the Ultra Edition or buy characters individually a la carte for $4.99 each.
