Sucker Punch Facing Layoffs Ahead Of First Light Launch
It’s easy to play the Sucker Punch pun game, so instead we’ll have to solemnly relay that IGN has reported that the PlayStation-exclusive development studio has suffered from layoffs. At this time, the exact number of people laid off is unknown, with SCEA confirming “a reduction in workforce has taken place at Sucker Punch Productions.”

Companies go through layoffs ahead of, and after, the release of titles all the time. In a world of ever-expanding AAA game development budgets, bubbles will start to burst. It also doesn’t make it easy when you understand that Sony has been going through a sort of an economic crisis at their company, despite the overall success of the PlayStation 4. Losses have been going on at almost all levels of the company, whether it be executives, creative leaders, entire divisions or even at the simple retail level.
Best wishes to those that lost their job at Sucker Punch Productions. When you help to create games for the Infamous and Sly Cooper franchises, this will hopefully be a blip on the radar on the way to bigger and brighter things.
