GameSided Roundtable: Pick Just One Of These Upcoming Games

There was a time in my life when I seriously thought the only games out there with good plots were RPGs. Assassin’s Creed is what destroyed my delusions. That’s why if I have to pick only one thing in October to play, it will be Assassin’s Creed: Unity.
This is an act of loyalty and love, but with little hope. The first Assassin’s Creed was intriguing, and good for what it was. But Ubisoft hit their peak with these games when they introduced Ezio Auditore. Ezio was passionate, funny, driven, perfectly imperfect, and supported by a cast of characters almost as interesting as he was. Nevermind that Assassin’s Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations also had better mechanics, variety, storyline, subplots, combat, and pretty much everything else; for me, the leading player is what drives the game forward. Ubisoft has not yet been able to create another Ezio–someone fans will love enough to want to stay with from beginning to end. Even Edward, though an enormous improvement over Connor, didn’t quite cast the same spell that Ezio did.
Yet something about Arno intrigues me, and makes me want to believe he can entrance me enough to make me a loyal fan again. Perhaps it helps that he, like Ezio, seems to have an intriguing supporting cast. But for me, Unity is the last chance I intend to give the Assassin’s Creed series before I give up hope entirely. Please, Ubisoft, write me a lead I can fall in love with again…while I make impossible leaps off buildings, sneak into places I don’t belong, and take down evildoers in increasingly creative ways.

If I could only buy one game in October? It would Insomniac Games over the top exclusive Xbox One game; Sunset Overdrive. I have been a fan of Insomniac Games since the Spyro the Dragon days, and Ratchet & Clank is overall one of my favorite franchises, Sadly, Insomniac Games has seemed to be in a creative rut the last few years with their first multi-platform game, Fuze, being a pretty big disappointment and several lackluster Ratchet & Clank titles, such as All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault.

Sunset Overdrive seems to be their most creative and straight up fun title in years. It definitely evokes the fun spirit of games like Ratchet & Clank with its light fun attitude and over the top weapons, but still seems like the fresh change of pace that Insomniac Games sorely needed to get their creative spark back. A lot of October games are serious and grim and really violent, and while I can enjoy those, a bright, fun, colorful and really creative game will win me over every time, and Sunset Overdrive exudes these qualities.
Now we pose the question to you, GameSided readers. If you could pick only one game of your choice coming out this October, what would it be, and why? Let us know in the comments section below.
