I think few games have had the slow build from “eh, who cares” to one of the most intriguing games of the year like Shadows of Mordor. I’m pretty much a sucker for any kind of fantasy action game, but I think upon first reveal, like most my reaction was that it’s at best a poor Batman knockoff with a Lord of The Rings license attached.

And that reaction might have been very justified, given that Shadows of Mordor started life as a Batman game based in the Nolan Batman universe. However, as time has gone on and more has been revealed about the game and how it’s various systems work along with people having gotten to play the game and give their reactions from shows like E3, Shadows of Mordor is proving itself to really be its own unique thing and arguably the most unique and original Lord of The Rings game to date.
The latest trailer for the game helps explain how your various Wraith powers work, and shows that you’ll need a variety of strategies to overcome your adversaries. As I stated before, Shadows of Mordor has become one of my most anticipated titles of 2014, which is quite a turnaround from my initial reaction to the game. Check out the new trailer below:
Get ready to kill a whole lot of orcs in many different ways when Shadows of Mordor hits shelves September 30 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, followed on October 2 by the PC version (via Steam).
