Tekken 7 Announcement Leaked Early
UPDATE: Harada-san did make an appearance at Evo 2014 today to formally announce Tekken 7. The above trailer was shown, with a promise of more information coming at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 (SDCC 2014).
ORIGINAL: Well would you look at that! It appears as though Tekken 7 has been confirmed for development by IGN via a video uploaded to aol.com. A title likely to have been revealed during an announcements block at Evo 2014 later today, IGN news reporter Daemon Hatfield notes that Tekken 7 will be powered with the Unreal Engine 4. There were rumors floating around that a Tekken 7 image was leaked yesterday at Evo 2014, and it appears those rumors turned out to be true.

Furthermore, the video goes on to quote Tekken Exeuctive Producer and Game Director Katsuhiro Harada, who said, “Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but allows us to immediately bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire.” IGN received no more information about the title in advance, including a release window or all platforms that the game will become available for.
Either way you go about it, it’s great to see fighting games take the leap to 8th-generation consoles. Mortal Kombat X is already doing so by jumping to PS4 and Xbox One, but will still be anchored by the Xbox 360 and PS3. Who knows if Tekken 7 will be purely a next-gen title (unlikely), but it would be an awesome leap of faith, if true. Less development time taken to port games means more effort can be made on further developing content within the games.
We’ll be on the lookout for more Tekken 7 information as it becomes available.
