Evo 2014: Mango Is Your Smash Bros Melee Grand Finals Winner

facebooktwitterreddit

Who says Smash Bros can’t be hype? Continuing the day of constant Evo 2014 Finals play, Mango has won the Super Smash Bros Melee grand finals! He came out on top over a very respectable match with Hungrybox, as an insane 137,800+ peak concurrent viewers were on hand to watch the 3-2 Winner’s Bracket victory on Twitch. He will leave today’s epic Top 8 Finals with over $5,800 in earnings and knowledge that we didn’t see yet another Armada vs. Mango Grand Final event in a Smash tournament. Thank the stars for that.

More from News

There were a lot of crazy matches in the Super Smash Bros Melee Top 8. Axe chopped down Silent Wolf in a 2-1 8th place match, but Axe won the final set by 4-stocking his opponent with Pikachu on the Fountain of Dreams stage in less than 1 minute. It was a very tight match until that Pikachu went full aggression right in the end. Furthermore, the Loser’s Bracket Final was probably the longest match at Evo 2014, as both Armada and Hungrybox switched it up between characters and stages to show a variations of playstyles that are unique to top-level play. Who knew that Young Link could stick around for that long?

The full final results of Super Smash Bros Melee play at Evo 2014 are as follows:

  1. Mango ($5,820)
  2. Hungrybox ($1,940)
  3. Armada ($970)
  4. PPMD ($388)
  5. Mew2king ($194, T-5)
  6. Axe ($194, T-5)
  7. Fly Amanita ($97, T-7)
