Smash Bros Direct: Mewtwo Coming To Wii U/3DS Owners

facebooktwitterreddit

Because Nintendo doesn’t know how to count (they must be taking number lessons from Gabe Newell), the 50-Fact Extravaganza surrounding Super Smash Bros for Wii U has extended to 54. However, we’re not complaining (much) just yet, as the 54th fact is that Mewtwo is on his way as a bonus DLC character!

More from 3DS

Coming Spring 2015, he will be a freebie added into the game early next year. However, there is a catch. You have to own both versions of Super Smash Bros (on both 3DS and Wii U) to get access to him as a free bonus, within a limited time after his launch. It is unclear at this time whether or not he will become purchasable at a much later date for either version for those who don’t own both Smash Bros titles.

If Mewtwo remains exclusive to dual-game purchasers, then its is quite the disappointment. There’s already a soundtrack-based incentive, however that’s providing a physical bonus and doesn’t affect gameplay. A playable character such as Mewtwo can affect the balance of Super Smash Bros’ roster. For that to be accessible after $100+ of purchases, and not just through owning either the 3DS or Wii U versions, would be very unlike what we’ve seen Nintendo do with DLC.
