E3 2014: THQ Lives On! (In Name Only)

Right as E3 2014 concludes, we get to the more interesting news in video games publishing. It appears as though Nordic Games, an independently-owned Austrian games publishing company, has acquired the THQ trademark and will start publishing games under that name effective immediately, according to Polygon.

The naming rights to THQ is just a small part of many acquisitions made by Nordic Games coming out of the bankruptcy of THQ last year (one of the biggest gaming stories of the year), one that saw the publishers acquire the rights to Darksiders, Destroy All Humans! and MX vs ATV, among other properties. It may be in name only, but one must keep using the trademark effectively within the proper context of its acquisition, meaning the new THQ will likely have to conduct publishing business to maintain naming rights. If that is the way it has to be for Darksiders 3 to see the light of day, so be it!
