Top 10 Games of the Year Can Be Found Here – These are the Honorable Mentions!
Now that myself and staff writers Rebekah, Martin and Keith have submitted our individual lists, we only have one thing left to do before we reveal our Game of the Year 2014 list; share our honorable mentions! 2014 saw a great deal of games release across consoles, mobile platforms and PC’s, yet not all of them are worthy of elite representations.
For disclosure’s sake, over several emails this past 7 weeks, the staff have converged to discuss what is and isn’t worthy for nomination. All remakes, remasters and ports were exempt from eligibility. Once we broke it down to a final selection of 30, questionnaire forms were sent out, highlighting all games eligible in a randomized order. I then asked everyone to provide a minimum of a Top 5 list in ranked order, with a maximum of a Top 10 list possible. Here is the points breakdown per ranking:
- 1st place: 14 points
- 2nd place: 12 points
- 3rd place: 10 points
- 4th place: 8 points
- 5th place: 6 points
- 6th place: 5 points
- 7th place: 4 points
- 8th place: 3 points
- 9th place: 2 points
- 10th place: 1 point
There are numerous reasons why these titles didn’t make our collective Top 10 Game of the Year 2014 list. Some titles are Indie darlings, possibly escaping a playthrough from all writers. Others may be too difficult, pad content for a lengthy completion time or we just don’t like them as well as our final list. Differences in opinion are okay! Our goal is to provide a group effort when creating this list, and we hope you enjoy what is at least deserving of mention.
