Life is Strange Releases Episode 1 Late January

The developers of Remember Me learned their lesson after releasing a game that ironically did not result in releasing a game worthy of remembering. With their follow-up, they instead are opting to go with a more appropriate title, in “Life is Strange.” Their upcoming episodic game definitely reflects that notion, as can be seen in the trailer above. Square Enix has just announced that Episode 1 of 5 will be released on January 30, 2015.

In addition to being able to pick up Episode 1 of Life is Strange individually (at $4.99), there are two options to pick up the season pass. You can decide to jump right in and buy all 5 episodes at ~$3.99 each ($19.99 in total), or you can opt to buy just the first episode to see if you are intrigued by the story. If you decide that the supernatural graphic adventure game is to your tastes, you can buy episodes 2-5 at $16.99. It’s a pay model that well suits the episodic nature of these story-driven games, one that is to the benefit of the consumer. Hopefully, other companies adopt this kind of thinking.

Getting back on track, it sure does seem like Life is Strange will be an adventurous leap for developers DontNod. Centered around two female protagonists, Senior photography student Max suddenly discovers the ability to rewind time. This is discovered when trying to find her friend Chloe, whom she has not seen for five years. Very much like a Telltale Games entry, choice and consequences that stem from them will affect how the story is told. The use of rewinding time is crucial, as doing so lets the player discover viable story paths, solve puzzles and change answers in order to correct how the story flows.

Life is Strange will have its first episode released on January 30th for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.
