Between Shu Ferns: Brilliant PlayStation Experience Promo

facebooktwitterreddit

While it doesn’t touch the vulgarity of Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, PlayStation did manage to utilize absurdism to the limits of marketing possibilities by publishing a series of videos satirizing the Funny or Die-branded web program. “Between Shu Ferns” is a simple concept: an unnamed, bearded interviewer asks cutting-edge questions to Sony executives like Adam Boyes and game creator Tim Schafer, between two ferns that have a picture of Shuhei Yoshida on them. These videos are here to promote the upcoming PlayStation Experience event, taking place this upcoming Saturday and Sunday.

Oddly enough, each video is just the right amount of odd and humorous both not to offend, nor to be downright corny. Not only would I play the hell out of “Sour Dough Baguette: Born & Bread” and “Paper Boys II Men,” but I actually wanted to hear more humorous fake game titles to be “announced.” To know I’m being advertised to, yet can get passed it to find the funny within the news, is a rare treat.

Overall, it seems that this PlayStation Experience event will see more titles getting announced, the 3rd-party port list growing in size and playable game demos (including a remastered Grim Fandango) to be explored. Hopefully, the dubstep is kept to a minimum. Check the rest of the PlayStation Experience-teasing “Between Shu Ferns” videos out below.
