The Game Awards 2014 Nominees Are Revealed

facebooktwitterreddit

In what should be regarded as a time-filler (in contrast to the main event of game reveals and gameplay footage), The Game Awards 2014 nominees have been announced. They are viewable on The Game Awards website, with five separate awards at the bottom eligible for fan voting interaction.

More from News

Voted on by a panel of 28 different journalists from across the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada, The Game Awards list 16 different main categories, some of which are quite intriguing. For example, “Games For Change” is a rather vague category that includes a game about WWI, a young woman exploring her romantic feelings alongside her friend and, essentially, a video file of a mountain. Plus, both Bayonetta 2 and Hearthstone included in the Game of the Year list is a surprising turn of events. The fact that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in the Best Online Experience category, with its launch problems, is concerning. Ultimately, it’s a pedestrian list filled with a bunch of Nintendo-published titles.

The journalist panel won’t be able to touch 5 of The Game Awards categories, which are fan-voted and ultimately boring. Most anticipated game will likely be a popularity contest, while eSports players/teams of the year and “Trending Gamer” categories (who’s popular on Youtube/Twitch) are alienating to gamers who aren’t part of those possibly-niche worlds. Best Fan Creation, at the least, looks at transformative content that aims to entertain, so that much should be interesting.
