Every so often, the kids of South Park step back from political issues or everyday silliness to bring comedic light to a variety of video game topics. Such gaming topics have included Rock Band, World of Warcraft and even the console war between the PS4 and Xbox One (featuring their Stick of Truth appearances). Later tonight, Matt Stone and Trey Parker will tackle one of major the blemishes of the gaming industry; freemium games and their addictive nature.

As confirmed in a press release, tonight’s South Park will be titled “Freemium Isn’t Free,” a play on their Team America: World Police song “Freedom Isn’t Free.” “The kids in South Park are playing the new Terrance and Phillip mobile game,” the release describes of the episode. “Stan is addicted to the latest app to hit the market. Meanwhile, Terrance and Phillip aren’t feeling so good about the fortune they’re making on their new mobile game.”

It’s great to see that mainstream audiences that aren’t clued into the gaming industry better understand just how crazy the freemium payment model can be. Jim Sterling is just one man, and can’t champion against such anti-consumer payment schemes by himself! Hopefully, South Park will go as hard on the topic as they have on most everything else, especially on how it preys on whales to finance their games, at the consumer’s great expense.
