Splatoon Gets A New Trailer, Release Window

During today’s Nintendo Direct, we received our first glance at Splatoon post-E3. It comes in a new trailer, confirming that the game will have a story mode, as well. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata also announced the game’s release window, confirming the game should come out for the Wii U by the end of the second quarter of 2015. That doesn’t refer to their financial quarter, meaning it should be out between April and June next year.

In addition to the 4v4 online multiplayer, Nintendo showed a bit more into how you can play Splatoon by yourself. The trip-hop-punk-like music certainly mixes well with the stylized, colorful world on display, as you try to fend off evil octopi with your ink gun. You’re not just stuck in one arena, either, as you can shoot to separate sections of a huger map than what we’ve seen in multiplayer.

Interest in Splatoon was waning in the months after E3, but this Splatoon trailer definitely has me interested once again. Perhaps knowing that you don’t need to rely on your friends being around or online to play rejuvenated intrigue once again. Whatever it is, I’m glad Nintendo decided to make the game it’s own unique IP, instead of a new Mario game.

Splatoon should be coming exclusively to the Wii U by June 31st, 2015.
