Dark Souls On PC Migrating To Steam

Remember Games for Windows Live? Yeah, that was a “fun” adventure in digital gaming services! Thankfully, one of the service’s best games will be migrating to Steam soon, as Bandai Namco has announced that players of the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition will be able to migrate their save data and achievements over to Steam starting in November.

The way it works: those who currently have Dark Souls on Games for Windows Live will be able to redeem their tokens to get the Steam version at no extra cost. Then, once the migration process has begun in November, GFWL users can transfer their characters, progress and achievements over to their Steam accounts. Anyone can redeem the Steam version at any time, however the save data migration period will be for a limited time only. Furthermore, GFWL Rankings will not be transferred over to Steam. The migration dates will be announced shortly.

As the year comes to a close and we get closer and closer to the Steam Holiday Sale season, the timing for this Dark Souls move could not be any better. Everyone should be able to play the definitive version (with the necessary patch fix thanks to Durante) with as little hassle as possible, and playing the game on Steam through their digital service just makes everything easier.
