Master Chief Isn’t The Main Protagonist In Halo 5?
We know Agent Locke is the focus of the upcoming live-action series, Halo: Nightfall, which focuses on events that take place between Halo 4 & Halo 5: Guardians, but is he also the main character in Halo 5?

Mike Colter, who plays Agent Locke in Halo: Nightfall, has claimed in a recent interview that his character is who you’ll play as in Halo 5 and not series mainstay Master Chief.
"Yeah, I’m a playable character in Halo 5. Once Halo: The Master Chief Collection is released, and then Halo 5 comes out shortly thereafter, you’re basically going to be playing a game with me as the primary character.I’ll have some cool weaponry, and some cool abilities, because by that time I’ll be a Spartan IV.What’s not known, is whether I’m a friend or foe. The relationship between Master Chief and Jameson Locke is going to be interesting. Because what’s the outcome? Is he dead or alive? Because that’s usually what a manhunt comes down to, dead or alive, but you won’t know what the purpose of finding Master Chief is.Or what will happen if we do find him, what condition he will be in, and where he’s at mentally. But I’m sure that’ll be a plot twist in Halo 5."
While this certainly wouldn’t be the first time you play as multiple characters in a main line Halo game, Master Chief not being the primary character in Halo 5 is certainly not how the game has been marketed, which seems really misleading on Microsoft’s part. And Microsoft has confirmed that Locke is the primary character in Halo 5 while maintaining that Master Chief is integral to the game’s story and will be playable, but how often you play as him remains to be seen.
