Final Fantasy XV News Roundup

Lots of news in the last day on the latest entry in the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XV, so let’s round it all up into one easy post!

More from News

Firstly, there’s been plenty of question on what kind of game Final Fantasy XV is, because it looks way different than any previous FF title. Firstly, though there will be several characters in your party, the player will only be able to directly control the main protagonist, Noctis. Square Enix said that this is due to them wanting to focus on one character design and their desire to make Final Fantasy XV have its own unique battle system.

Speaking of the combat system, Square was asked if Final Fantasy XV would play more like Kingdom Hearts or like Final Fantasy Type-O. Square responded by saying over the course of it’s development it has gone from the point where it started out more like Kingdom Hearts, then got closer to being like FF Type-0, and now it feels more like its own thing.

And there has been concerns about Final Fantasy XV’s combat being described as a “one-button system”, but director Hajime Tabata has addressed those concerns:

"When you continue to hold down the guard button, you can basically auto-guard and evade, but it consumes MP,” he said. “You can’t infinitely evade. You have to think about timing, when it’s a good idea to attack or evade. Also, you aren’t invincible. There are attacks you can’t avoid. In those cases, there are also essential technical evasion methods. When you push the attack button, you invoke the standard combo. You can change the actions by using it in coordination with the directional buttons. The actions change depending on your circumstances—things like whether you’re guarding and whether the timing is right, or if your companions are nearby"

Sounds like FFXV is shaping up very nicely, I just hope we get the full release before 2016…
