Gamestop Looking Into Selling Used DLC

DLC is something you can never sell off to Gamestop right? Well in the future that may not be the case as the retailer is seriously looking into being able to re-sell your expansions and skins in the near future.

GameStop’s executive vice president, Mike Hogan spoke at the Gamestop expo this month with Ars Technica, and said the company was definitely looking into the possibility of selling second–hand DLC.

"It would require a partnership between retailers and publishers, but absolutely, it could go that way,” Hogan said. “We’re absolutely interested in pursuing that. There are lots of examples where people have taken digital content and made it transferable from one consumer to another. Think of World of Warcraft [and its third-party item sales]. There’s no fundamental or technological reason why that couldn’t happen [on other platforms]. If the consumer wants it, and it provides value, then we believe it will happen over time. The consumer will speak for that"

While the initial thought may be why companies would even bother with that, if Gamestop does work out a deal where companies get a cut of the DLC re-sale, that’s an additional revenue stream, and one of the more interesting features of the original plans for the Xbox One was the ability to trade & sell your DLC and may still be coming in the future. Would you buy used DLC or Trade-in yours for credit? I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it if game companies were getting their deserved cut, as that’s the biggest issue with used games themselves in the first place.
