Those eagerly awaiting the third and final entry to the Dark Souls 2 DLC “Crowns” series, Crown of the Ivory King, will have to wait just a bit longer. The publisher, Bandai Namco, has announced that the third entry in the downloadable content series will be released on September 30th on Steam and Xbox Live, while making its way to the PSN on October 1st. It had originally been planned to be released this Wednesday, September 24th.

With sites like Polygon getting their hands on Dark Souls 2 DLC footage earlier than Thursday of last week, my bet is that there has to have been a major bug or broken feature that requires a bit more of time to work out before being released to the public. It’s pure speculation, but game director Yui Tanimura doesn’t attend press events for Western gaming journalists like clockwork. There must have been something holding it back for the game not to see its most important block of updated gaming content be released on time.

It’s a shame, because I’ve been having the most fun in the game with the Dark Souls 2 DLC. The Crown of the Sunken King was an excellent adventure into the depths, while Crown of the Old Iron King reworked many of the game’s mechanics and reimagined the limitations of the game’s platforming puzzle dynamics. I could have gone without a boss re-skin as one of three total big bad enemies, but you can win them all.

Dark Souls 2 DLC Crown of the Ivory King will now be released on September 30th on Steam and Xbox 360, while the PS3 version will be released on October 1st.
