TGS 2014: Tetsuya Nomura Leaving FFXV To Focus On Kingdom Hearts III

Tetsuya Nomura had a lot on his hands heading up development on both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, leading any to wonder how long it might be before we actually get to enjoy the further adventures of Sora, Donald & Goofy. Well, Nomura has decided to hand off the remainder of FFXV‘s development so he can focus on other projects, namely Kingdom Hearts 3

More from News

The remainder of FFXV’s development will be directed by Hajime Tabata, who worked on Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII & Final Fantasy Type-0 before becoming the director on FFXV.

Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda had a press release on the matter, stating:

"Hereafter, [Nomura] will be focusing his efforts on the production of titles that can only be made possible by Nomura, himself, and delivering products that exceed the quality of past titles, starting with another one of his representative projects, Kingdom Hearts III. Square Enix will continue to work on these titles with the best staff formation in an effort to deliver them to everyone as soon as possible and appreciates your continued support"

This most likely means that progress on FFXV is coming along well, and hopefully we’ll see that in the next year or so. With Nomura devoting most of his attention to Kingdom Hearts 3 now, does that mean a faster track to release? I sure hope so, but no way these are coming out the same year, so don’t expect Kingdom Hearts 3 on shelves until at least 2016.
