Success of Sims 4 May Determine If There Is A Sims 5

There are many people talking about The Sims 4 lately. A great deal of that comes, of course, from the game’s release last week (our review up later today), but a great deal further comes from the near-100 features that are notably missing now, that were in previous editions of the life simulator. Only a week out, it’s hard to gauge just how much of the negativity surrounding the game has impacted the sales, but at the very least the people who worked on The Sims 4 are remaining very steadfast on the present instead of looking forward to the future.

On the game’s EA forums, the fans have begun to amass a list for the game’s producer Grant Rodiek to add or include in the next title, The Sims 5. However, he’s states that, “We’re not working on Sims 5. We’re not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn’t successful, there won’t be a Sims 5.”

It’s a fairly honest take, one that anyone outside of the company would gather as a foregone conclusion. However, for a producer to suggest it, it puts fans of the series who may dislike The Sims 4 on its own in a weird position. Even though it may not have been his intention, but that kind of statement puts into one’s mind that those who choose to abstain from picking up the title, waiting for a more fully-realized sequel, could be partly responsible for The Sims 5 not seeing the light of day. Plus, with so many features removed from The Sims 4, it’s not unfair to think that The Sims 5, were it to become a reality, may cut even more features out of the game instead of adding the wishlist created by fans.

The Sims 4 is out now exclusively on PC.
