Slipping through the cracks in a busy week of gamescom 2014 comes the news that Killer Instinct Season 2 has received a release date. The beginning of the new slew of characters begins on October 15, starting with a soft release that features the playability and costumes of T.J. Combo and Maya.

Beyond the release, new characters for Killer Instinct Season 2 will be added to the roster on a near-monthly basis. Players can choose to buy the game in several ways. The Ultra Edition, retailing for $39.99, gives you access to all 8 characters as they become available, plus costumes and accessories, and a Killer Instinct 2 Classic port with full Xbox Live support. There’s also a tease of getting special and bonus stuff a bit early, including adding T.J. Combo to your Killer Instinct complete roster as early as September 23.

The Combo Breaker Pack, retailing at $19.99, just gets you the 8 Killer Instinct Season 2 characters as they are released. You can also buy each character for $4.99, if you only plan on maining a few of the new characters that interest you. It will be interesting to see how the new characters added to the game will affect the overall balance of the roster. At just 8 characters right now, the tier list seems mostly fair, with each character almost entirely relying on the player’s ability to win over possible matchup gaming. At 16 overall, still a considerably small roster for a fighting game, I’d hope that the balance remains near the same.

Killer Instinct Season 2 will be coming exclusively to the Xbox One starting October 15. Everyone wants more October games, right?
