Three New Playable Characters Headed To Upcoming Super Smash Bros

UPDATE: It appears as though Chrom is not a playable character, but will likely be a Final Smash addition for Robin in Super Smash Bros on the 3DS and Wii U.

ORIGINAL: What an amazing reveal! During a Nintendo livestream event earlier today, the Japanese gaming company revealed 3 all-new Super Smash Bros characters, including the return of an old favorite. From the Fire Emblem series, Lucina and Robin (both genders) are now playable Smashers, while Captain Falcon drives his way into the fray once again. Chrom looks to be involved in Robin’s final smash, but that is unconfirmed.

More from News

Fire Emblem has certainly had a strong appeal when it comes to Super Smash Bros and game director Masahiro Sakurai, as the likes of Marth, Roy, Ike, Lucina, and Robin have all been playable characters at one point or another. Even Lyn has made it in as an assist trophy, and Chrom seems to be included in some way in the current Smash title, solidifying Nintendo’s strong reliance with developers Intelligent Systems.

Meanwhile, Captain Falcon has made yet another appearance, albeit in a reveal so close to the Super Smash Bros release date on the Nintendo 3DS. Perhaps it has to do with Nintendo’s insistence to not create any more games involving one of their biggest high-speed arcade racers, but I’m glad to see such a renown staple of the fighting series making it in the brawl once again.

Super Smash Bros will be released on the Nintendo 3DS on October 3rd, while the Wii U version is slated for this holiday season.
