It works by using a special chip that can be registered by the Wii U GamePad, and will premiere in use this holiday season. Special moves and custom data can be saved on these Amiibo figurines, and will be used first on the upcoming Super Smash Bros Wii U game, coming out this holiday season. Additionally, it will be set to work on Mario Kart 8, as Nintendo gave a shoutout to Luigi’s death stare.
Amiibo was also revealed to be coming to the Nintendo 3DS in 2015, serving possibly as a new, physical alternative to DLC.
