Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Skipping E3 2014 For Health Reasons
Polygon is reporting that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata won’t be travelling overseas to California for E3 2014 next week under the advisement of his physician. The Nintendo representative did not explain the severity of Iwata’s health concerns, but did mention that otherwise, “it is business as usual,” and he will remain “actively involved in all of Nintendo’s activities at the show.”

With Iwata’s presence being missed at the actual event, we will know for sure whether or not Nintendo’s Digital Event/Nintendo Direct will be fully pre-recorded or will feature someone else at Nintendo to share hosting duties over the proceedings. Hopefully Iwata will be fine in Japan, but seeing how he will continue his work at the office I doubt there is anything seriously wrong with the president of Nintendo.
With Super Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, X, and countless other titles to be showcased (including unannounced titles), E3 2014 should be a shining moment in the Wii U’s early-troubled life cycle. Even though the man in charge won’t be there in person, his presence will be felt. Get better, Iwata!
