Board Games Come to Consoles With Hasbro Game Channel

You know what’s really been missing from consoles? The ability to play Hungry Hungry Hippo online! In all seriousness though, the ability to easily access some classic board games and play them online with your friends would be pretty cool.

In that spirit, Ubisoft has announced The Hasbro Channel for Xbox One, PS4, PS3 & 360 (notice the Wii U is not listed, which is a shame as I think board games could be a great fit on the Wii U) this fall. Three games will be available on the Hasbro Game Channel at the start: Monopoly Plus, Risk, and Trivial Pursuit Live!.

"“The new console experience will offer a brand new channel with both familiar and new gameplay modes, various missions, and achievement and rewards,”"

Monopoly Plus features up to 6 players, online or off. In addition to the traditional 2D board, Monopoly Plus will have a 3D board that will be “colorful and lively” and evolve with the gameplay.

Risk will have online league play, will feature modern armies, and have 3D battlefields. It will have the 2010 rules set as default, but players will be free to choose rule modifiers and win variants to have plenty of customization.

And Trivial Pursuit Live! will be set like a TV show and will have new question formats. But not much information is available beyond that.

One big question that is unanswered is pricing structure. Whether the Hasbro Game Channel will be seen as a good value very much hinges on reasonable pricing. It’s hard to say what exactly a reasonable price for these games are, but honestly I can’t imagine much beyond $15 per title and even that’s on the high end. Hopefully Ubisoft agrees.
