Coming out of San Diego Comic-Con 2014 is the news that protagonist of the Xbox film series

Halo: Nightall

, Agent Locke, has been confirmed to be a playable character for

Halo 5

:

Guardians

when the game is released later next year. A representative from

Kotaku

was there in San Diego to attend the comic book, gaming, anime, film and television convention, on hand to relay the information released by Microsoft.

More from Microsoft

That makes the dynamic of the (television?) show that much more interesting, as it will set as the back story for one of the main characters from Halo 5. It’s not clear as to whether the Halo video program will adhere or allude to any written books or stories surrounding the Halo series, but if Microsoft ever feels the need to I’m sure they can just jettison the gaming series’ expanded universe to better suit their needs.

Halo Nightfall will be released alongside Halo: The Master Chief Collection exclusively on Xbox platforms this November, while Halo 5: Guardians has a planned Fall 2015 release window.
