1Up Website Seemed No More; Temporarily Shuts Down (Update)

UPDATE: It appears that the 1Up site, 1up.com, had been taken down by mistake, as IGN Reviews Editor Dan Stapleton (former Editor-In-Chief of 1Up) notes on Reddit. In fact, the website is back up right now. Stapleton also clarifies that there should be a means to preserve its content should the website completely go down in the future.

ORIGINAL: It looks like the 1Up website is no more, as 1up.com now directs to a blank index page. It’s the end of an era, as the IGN-owned property is no more. The first mention on Twitter that the site was shut down was from one Michael Rougeau, who had recently been looking up their Lost Odyssey guide.

More from News

1Up, better appreciated for their podcasts and video content, was closed for business by digital media company Ziff Davis early last year, but many of the site’s content pieces were seemingly available prior to today, July 16. The quality of the site had definitely dipped in its final years, and it wasn’t a real secret after an ever-changing shift in games publication ownership at the time, but it was very important in creating and establishing video games entertainment beyond the written word.

To commemorate the final loss of 1Up, one of my favorite Broken Pixel episodes. Many have moved on, but let’s take one last look for old time’s sake.
