Best Xbox One Games List – #37 Wolfenstein: The New Order
Developer: MachineGames
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Xbox One Release Date: May 20, 2014
To release a first-person shooter without a multiplayer component in the year 2014 seems like development suicide, on paper. Fortunately for MachineGames, Wolfenstein: The New Order provides more than enough visceral, gory and explosive gameplay with its single-player campaign.
You play as William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, who in an alternate Earth is part of a squad trying to take down the Nazis in the year 1960. Those Germans had discovered untold advances in technology in an effort to establish dominance across the world, and it’s up to you to take them down. The game enjoys a stealth aspect to it, allowing to take down Nazis in gruesome manners without informing the enemy. You can also charge in guns akimbo, destroying man and mechanized beasts alike with an immense destructive power.
Wolfenstein: The New Order employs a great balance between FPS titles of the past and mechanics of the present while bringing a humbling, but intense story to an appreciative audience. It will be interesting to see where Bethesda takes the future of the series.
