It was bound to happen sooner or later. Sports video games pull from a limited pool of players and spent the entire of Ultimate Team style modes figuring out ways to make them different. One of the gimmicks/crutches that games end up using is out of position cards.

MLB The Show had not engaged this lunacy previously, but they've spoiled some of the content from Diamond Dynasty Season 3. Seasons are another way to sell us multiple versions of the same player, but that's a rant for a different time.

Out of position cards coming in Season 3 include pitcher Elly de La Cruz, catcher Bryce Harper, and left fielder Randy Johnson. Reactions from longtime Diamond Dynasty players are decidedly mixed. The stages with such a program usually progress from "this is dumb," to "wait, that William Refrigerator Perry QB actually works well in my lineup."

These programs often come late in the season because interest is lower, and fewer people care if something breaks the game horribly. With Madden 25 and College Football 25 just dropping, anything that gets players to fire up MLB The Show 24 is a win.

This goes well with the news that MLB 24 is about to be free to download for PlayStation Plus members. Welcome to absolute chaos, brand new players!

Who am I kidding? I am going to grind for these cards. I am going to play with them. I am going to make a whole lineup with them, no matter how terrible said lineup may turn out to be. The good news is, I'll be able to let all my readers know how this experiment goes.
