Patient fans of the MLB The Show series are about to get their reward. Sony's PlayStation Blog announced that MLB The Show 24 will be one of the monthly titles PlayStation Plus members receive for free in September.

The Major League Baseball season is nearing its end, meaning the title's sales likely peaked long ago. But at least some of the people that try MLB for free will likely get hooked on its Diamond Dynasty mode and spend at least a little money on packs. It's the circle of Ultimate Team life, and gaming publishers are familiar with their place in it.

If you like baseball at all and already have the PS Plus membership, there's no reason not to try it. MLB The Show is consistently one of the best games in the sports genre. The Negro League Storylines, entering their second year in the franchise, are some of the best content in the industry.

A second Storyline mode focuses on The Captain himself, legendary Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Also this year, women are playable characters for the first time. The Negro League Storylines tell the story of Toni Stone, the first female professional baseball player. Her inclusion made it a perfect time to make women playable in Road To The Show mode.

September's PlayStation Plus titles have a GameSided kind of feel. In addition to MLB The Show, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be available. The game of Quidditch is like soccer, only with a more wizardy aesthetic. Rocket League, which is soccer but with cars, was also a PS Plus offering at one point. Let me say again how much I love nerds.

Quidditch Champions features online multiplayer, a single-player career mode and of course, franchise characters such as Draco Malfoy and the Boy Who Lived himself, Harry Potter. The third PS Plus September offering is horror title Little Nightmares II. That one is not sports-related, but I have heard only good things.
