College Football 25 patch fixes route stem glitch, kinda

CFB 25's latest update addresses a powerful glitch that has plagued both it and older brother Madden 25. One of the features in both games is the ability to create custom stems that change how deep a receiver runs their route. That feature was intended. A sudden gamebreaking speed boost was not, and a powerful, glitchy strategy emerged.

With the previous patch nerfing the game's completely insane spin move, this was one of the biggest exploits remaining. It's still not perfect, and EA has already noted that another patch will balance it even further.

The spin move was still causing problems after the last patch as well. The game offers a conservative ball carrier setting, which reduces the chance of fumbling but prevents all ball carrier moves except protect ball. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. Spin move, still the best move in CFB 25 and Madden even after the nerf, was still usable on conservative.

Spin moves became no risk, high reward which is the complete opposite of what is supposed to happen. This spin move may be a problem all season. Hopefully it doesn't get nerfed to the point of being useless.

Both the stem glitch and conservative spin move appear in Madden 25 as well, so a patch for it should be in the works. None of these things have stopped legions of lapsed fans from returning to play the game, which is already the bestselling game of 2024.

With real life college football now underway, many more updates to College Football 25 are coming. We're in for a fun season.
