If I've written about it once, I've written about it 1,000 times. A much-anticipated patch to fix nagging issues with a game has created an entirely new set of nagging issues with a game. The Aug. 8 patch for EA Sports College Football nerfed an overpowered spin move and stopped those FCS juggernauts from upsetting Top 25 teams so frequently. But it broke a few other things.

Apparently, changing your team's playbook in Dynasty can cause players' overall ratings and archetype to change depending on the scheme. The CFB team is aware of the problem and explained a fix. You need to change playbooks from the Edit Coach screen, not the schemes/playbook screen.

The update also made freshmen stop appearing in the positions change screen. To work around this, you'll need to change their position from the Edit Player menu.

Another issue is with scheduling. Annual non-conference games are not rotating from one year to the next. This isn't one players will be able to fix with a workaround. Again, the team has made players aware that they're working on the issues. A new update resolved the problem for online dynasties, but a fix for offline dynasties is still in the works.

EA has an army of critics who have accused it of doing little to offer good single-player experiences in games. These divides don't do anything to silence them. After a great deal of goodwill generated by the first new college football game in 11 years, we may be out of the honeymoon period.

These problems are annoying. But if I'm honest (and that's why I'm here) I have had insane amounts of fun with CFB 25 since launch. Is it perfect? No, few games are. But it gives me the kind of pure joy that puts it in a category with Madden 04, Tecmo Bowl, or NCAA 14.
