It's never good when you reveal a new game mode and the community reaction is "WTF are they doing over there?" But's that exactly what we got with NBA 2K's reveal of a new mode, wait for it - Gravity Ball! Here's the trailer lest you think I'm making this up:

This feels like somebody at Take-Two Interactive saw Rocket League's numbers and ordered somebody to make a thing like that. It feels like chasing a trend about 4-5 years too late, which is a thing that video game execs are often good at.

Who is this game even for? It doesn't look good enough that anybody who enjoys arcade-style games such as Rocket League to switch over. All the comments from the existing NBA 2K audience are overwhelmingly negative. The worst part? They're asking $8 for this.

We gave you $70 for the game, 2K. If you want to add new game modes after launch, that's cool. But they should be free. I know gamers (and gaming journalists) love to spend publishers money for them. We're all aware of exactly how much the NBA 2K series is bringing in. We've all seen 2K step onto multiple PR landmines.

And I hate to be that guy- I'm lying, I enjoy being that guy. They pay me to be that guy. You know your MyTEAM mode, the thing most of us bought the game for? I can still put Yao Ming in at point guard and glitch my opponent. Could we get somebody working on that please?
