Greetings! This is our weekly GameSided Roundtable feature, where our writers converge to provide their opinions, wishes, statements or critical thought on one general topic centered around video games. Sometimes it can be funny, sometimes it can be serious. Contemporary, classic; we hope to cover a wide variety of things in this segment as a group. If you wish to submit an idea for a GameSided Roundtable discussion topic, you can leave the editor an email at: daniel.george@fansided.com. We’ll totally give you (and your Twitter account, if applicable) a shoutout!

After the recent teaser trailer release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its possible links to Star Wars: Battlefront, this week’s GameSided Roundtable topic: “What is your favorite Star Wars game?”

I’ve played the majority of Star Wars games. There have been some good ones, there have been some truly terrible ones. But the most spectacular one is one of the best games of all time, and that is Knights of The Old Republic. It was able to free itself from the chains of being tied to a particular movie by being set so far in the past, but still really captured the feeling of Star Wars. The characters were all deep & nuanced with and excellent system. HK-47 is simply a character for the ages. And this was the first game I played where it really felt like your choices made a difference, save the galaxy or rule it with an iron fist. Knights of The Old Republic is simply one of the best games ever; Star Wars or otherwise.

I have already covered my list of favorite Star Wars games last year, so my love for the Knights of the Old Republic has already been established on this site. However, between the two (the MMO garbage doesn’t count), I’d have to go with KOTOR II: The Sith Lords. Obsidian Entertainment did a great job of picking up where BioWare left off by expanding upon a solid base of gameplay. Full disclosure; my appreciation for this game above other Star Wars entries lies in the fan-created patches, including the prime Restoration Mod that brought back so much of the cut content that plagued the game’s development. As a complete package, it left me wanting more. I hope that EA has a team working on a D20-based Star Wars RPG within one of their many studios, as it is a tried and true formula for success.

This one is easy. It’s Knights of the Old Republic, and it’s not even close. For RPG fans like myself, it is one of the best games ever made. KOTOR is vintage pre-EA BioWare. It has that deep, tactical feel that made Dragon Age: Origins great, with all the awesomeness of lightsabers.

The only drawback for Star Wars fans is that it is set thousands of years before the movies. If there weren’t lightsabers, force powers and Wookiees, it would be impossible to tell that it is a Star Wars game.

It still counts though, and it is a great game. Even though it shows its age now, it is still a lot of fun and worth playing (it’s an iOS game now) if you haven’t played it.
