Amiibo Data Storage Is Limited To One Game
As reported by GameInformer, the Nintendo Japan website has updated information on Amiibos stating that Amiibo data storage is limited to only one compatible game at a time.
At the moment, this isn’t a pressing problem. The only game that actually stores information on the Amiibos currently is the upcoming Super Smash Bros for Wii U. Other compatible games, such as Mario Kart or Hyrule Warriors, recognize Amiibos and use their presence to unlock new outfits or items, but do not actually store data on them as far as we’re aware. Nintendo has several new games coming out soon that will feature Amiibo compatibility, including Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Yoshi’s Wooly World.
But it’s hard to imagine Nintendo putting a feature on a device solely for one game. It’s very likely other games will want to store data on the Amiibos, in which case fans will have the difficult decision of deciding which game’s data they want to keep. And many people aren’t going to want to buy duplicates of the same Amiibo just to be compatible with different games, though some will still shell out the money for it.
We need more information to make a judgment as to how much this will really affect the usefulness of Amiibos, but at the moment this seems like a seriously limiting feature.
