Microsoft Offering Xbox One Without Kinect Starting In June
UPDATE: Pre-orders for the $399 Xbox One SKU that does not come with a Kinect are now available on Best Buy, Amazon and GameStop.
ORIGINAL: In a shocking move ahead of Thursday’s posting of the April NPD numbers, Microsoft has announced via the Xbox Wire an Xbox One SKU that comes without a Kinect device, priced at $399 USD. Retailers will sell this Xbox One starting June 9th, the same day Microsoft kicks off E3 with their media briefing.
It goes without saying; this is an excellent decision for consumers. A $500 console with weaker hardware specifications than Sony’s PS4 offering at $100 cheaper made it difficult for the Xbox One to sell all that well around the worldwide. Not to say that the Xbox One hasn’t performed amicably in its start; it’s shipped 5 million consoles already. Now that the Xbox One can be purchased for $399, it levels the playing field a little bit.
If this Kinect-free Xbox One SKU reveal is indicative of the quality of announcements that are happening in May, imagine what is to be announced by Microsoft during E3 2014!
