Watch Dogs Is 1080p, 60 FPS On PS4? (Update)
UPDATE FINAL: Ubisoft has since confirmed that the resolution on the PS4 version of Watch Dogs will be 900p, compared to 792p on Xbox One. Both run at 30 FPS, not 60. Story here.
UPDATE 1: The final line from the above picture, “At 60 frames per second in 1080p,” has since been removed from the website. It would suggest one of two things: 1) Whoever wrote that page for PlayStation was incorrect in the assumption that Watch Dogs will be 1080p and/or 60 FPS on PS4, or; 2) The PS4 is not the only gaming device capable of providing Watch Dogs gameplay at 1080p/60 FPS. We’ll know for sure closer to release.
ORIGINAL: Watch Dogs is set to be released later this month, and Sony wants to make sure that fans of the game pick up their version by highlighting some of the benefits of picking it up on the PS4 on their website. In addition to four timed-exclusive missions, character skin and booster packs, the PS4 version of Watch Dogs has been confirmed to run at 1080p and 60 FPS. Whether or not that is a locked or unlocked frame rate that hits 60 FPS is not noted on the site.
As written on the website: “The world of Watch_Dogs comes alive on PS4 with the best graphics on any console and exclusive missions found only on PlayStation. Hack everything as you make your way through Chicago’s underground as you experience Watch_Dogs in a way that only PS4 can provide, at 60 Frames Per Second in 1080p.”
There’s no official word on what other console versions of the game will run at, but it does suggest that the Xbox One, Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Watch Dogs will operate at less than 1080p resolution and/or 60 frames per second. Hopefully, the PC version will be unlocked to achieve higher than 1080p, depending on the native screen resolution of one’s monitor.
When it comes to exclusives, playing the resolution/FPS game falls second to the quality of a title. It doesn’t matter if the newest Halo game doesn’t hit those magical numbers; it’s not coming to the PS4 or Wii U, which is invariably more important. However, when you have Watch Dogs coming out on every major console, on PCs, as an app on tablets and mobile devices (gameplay companion app), it’s a harsh, but just marketing method.
Watch Dogs is slated for release on PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 on May 27th, with the Wii U version coming out later this year.
