5. Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; difficult video games are great for gaming. Not to say that being difficult = being a quality game, but the Super Star Wars series brought, perhaps, the first excellent Star Wars games. The Empire Strikes Back perfected its gameplay, bringing a password system that made losing all lives (a likely occurence) not game-ending frustration.
The Mode 7 graphics allowed for the enjoyable Snowspeeder level, while the benefis of Yoda’s training led to innovative force powers and a thrilling duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The platforming was the cherry on the top, as it balanced precise jumps and tense combat.
