Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinction Mode Video Hints At ‘Nightfall’ Story

When it comes to Call of Duty multiplayer, fans are expecting some sort of bonus mission/gameplay style as a memorable throw-in. Zombie mode was an excellent example in Treyarch games past, which followed an extensive story involving WWII-era personalities. It appears as though Infinity Ward will be trying to replicate that success, as a new trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts focuses on a Episode 1: Nightfall. It is the beginning of a 4-part Extinction Mode series.

What was thought to be the end in the first installment, based in Colorado, was just the beginning. Samples smuggled to Alaskan labs were still alive, and have taken over the research facility. It’s up to you and your teammates to learn more about their origins, how they adapt and their plans for humanity. New weapons, new enemies and a new location are coming to Extinction Mode.

Last time we saw mention of such a series was at the end of the recent DLC trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts, but to provide more of the back story for one mode entirely suggests that the company hopes to make this as big of a thing as zombie mode. I wouldn’t be surprised if, depending on the future of the franchise, we see Extinction Mode or a story of its characters branch into more games.

It’s up to the public to decide whether or not Call of Duty: Ghosts Extinction Mode Episode 1: Nightfall is worthy of great success when the DLC “Onslaught” is released on Xbox devices on January 28th. The content will also be headed to additional devices at a later date. Here’s the trailer:
