Final Fantasy III Coming To Steam

Not to be outdone by releases of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy III is set to be released on Steam coming soon. As noted in a Square Enix press release, the game seems to derive from the Nintendo DS version of the game, but is now optimized for the PC.

Additionally, Final Fantasy III will benefit from some of Steam’s social gaming bonuses, including Steam trading cards and achievements. As well, the game will see enhanced 3D visuals, adapted visual designs for things like Job Mastery cards and improved graphics. Essentially, expect the Nintendo DS version, but on a computer and with a better resolution.

While not one of my favorite Final Fantasy games of all time, Final Fantasy III does set the precedent for including the job system as a means of improving characters. Plus, as the first title in the series to sell more than a million units, it paved the way for excellent future entries. It’s an important part of the series’ history. Plus, it’s great to see more Final Fantasy games come to the PC.

We’ll be on the lookout for an official release date for Final Fantasy III on Steam as it is revealed.
