Best Xbox One Games List – #10 D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die
Developer: Access Games
Publisher: Microsoft Studios
Xbox One Release Date: September 19, 2014
The biggest downfall to D4 was that it had next to zero promotion whatsoever. Its release date was announced dozens of hours before its launch, with just a prologue and two episodes to boot. The game follows the same ideals and wackiness that Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro embodies in all his games, including the most infamous, charmingly broken title, “Deadly Premonition.”
You play as a PI named David Young, who is searching for “D,” the mysterious person who killed his wife. His main ability is to time travel to specific moments in his wife’s life by touching special momentos. The entire gameplay is built for Kinect (which was no longer a mandatory purchase for Xbox One owners), allowing for collection of materials and the ability to listen to the quirky inner thoughts of our protagonist and the world that surrounds him. The personality-driven cast of characters, the multitude of cosmetic options and the oddball sensibilities embodying the adventure genre make D4 a worthy title. We can’t wait for more episodic content!
